Welcome

SWMSES 2009

The Southwest Michigan Science Educators Symposium (SWMSES) will be held this year on Friday, November 6, 2009.

We are renovating, and we ask that you join us in renovating your own classroom experience!  This year SWMSES is going back to its original design:  Great ideas come from sharing ideas!

This is PD you should NOT miss!  Bring your single best idea- a lab, an activity, a demonstration, a website, a way to give notes, a classroom management idea- anything great you do!  Imagine what you will walk away with!

It’s FREE!  That is, if you plan to share!  (Otherwise it’s $20 just to show up, $10 if you’re a pre-service teacher, and add $10 if you register late.)  The sessions are informal share-sessions.  Teachers of similar subject matter group into a room and share ideas.

A 10-15 minute share is all you need!  Then the rest of the group will jump in and share their ideas, activities, or modifications.

This year our focus is linking activities to specific content expectations in the ever-changing Michigan science curriculum.

Don’t just sit back and say “I’m here to learn things”.  Do BOTH!  Share one great thing, then spend the rest of your day learning from your peers!  The SWMSES team has a challenge for you – Bring something to share!

As an incentive for your school; Michael Benz from Benz Microscope will be presenting a session teaching you how to fix and maintain your school microscopes!  Bring one microscope from your school with you to this SWMSES session and Michael will walk you through steps and answer specific questions you may have.

Hope to see you here on November 6th!
